Wuppertal: Guide
Wuppertal () és una ciutat d'Alemanya, pertanyent al land de Rin del Nord-Westfàlia. Ocupa una àrea de 168,41 km² i compta amb 363.500 habitantes (setembre de 2004). És una ciutat de creació recent —el 1929—, nascuda de l'agregació d'Elberfeld, Barmen i altres nuclis dels encontorns. El nom, escollit per votació el 1930, significa "vall del riu Wupper".
Durant la segona guerra mundial, la ciutat va quedar destruida en prop d'un 40%. Tot i així, conserva barris característics i uns 4.500 monuments catalogats com a nacionals, de períodes com el Classicisme, el Modernisme o la Bauhaus. Un dels més coneguts és la Stadthalle, una sala de concerts inaugurada en 1900 pel kàiser Guillem II d'Alemanya|Guillem II. En l'àmbit de l'art modern no és menys important el teatre de la ballarina Pina Bausch.
