Brisbane és una ciutat Austràlia|australiana, capital de l’estat de Queensland. Està situada a l’est del país, on el riu Brisbane desemboca a l’oceà Pacífic.

Història

La ciutat de Brisbane va rebre el nom de Sir Thomas Brisbane (1773–1860), governador de Nova Gal·les del Sud, que al 1824 fundà una colònia penitenciària.

L’assentament de colons lliures no fou permès fins al 1842.
A Queensland es va establir una administració colonial separada de Nova Gal·les del Sud el 1859 i Brisbane esdevinguè la capital.

A la dècada de 1980 fa el salt de gran ciutat de províncies a metròpoli internacional. Organitzà els jocs de la Commonwealth el 1982 i l’Expo 88 el 1988, alhora que experimentà un gran desenvolupament urbanístic i un fort creixement demogràfic.
