Birmingham és una ciutat i un municipi metropolità situat al centre d'Anglaterra. Està considerada la "segona ciutat" d'Anglaterra.
La ciutat de Birmingham té una població estimada de 992.000 habitants (2004) i forma la major part d'una gran conurbació de de 2.284.093 (segons el cens de 2001) que inclou bastants pobles i ciutats com Sutton Coldfield, Solihull, Wolverhampton, els pobles del "Black Country" (camp negre), i altres territoris del voltant.
